Train Touristique des Gorges de l'Allier

One of the most beautiful railway tours in France, where no other road passes. Between Langeac (Haute-Loire) and Langogne (Lozère), between volcanoes and granite, on the mythical Cévennes line, this particularly daring route goes through wild and inaccessible gorges. These are so hilly that a great number of structures needed to be built. Over 67 km, no less than 51 tunnels and 16 viaducts were built by the sheer strength of man in the 19th century. The guided tour slows down punctually, enabling the passengers to discover landscapes shaped by water and volcanoes, and one of the last great European rivers where Atlantic salmon comes to spawn.

4 departure stations: Langogne, Langeac, Monistrol d’Allier and Alleyras. Over 2 hours of beautiful sightseeing. Outward journey on the Tourist train, commented on by an approved guide. Return journey on regular SNCF (National Railway) trains on the same day.

4 possibilities of spending a beautiful day: The great crossing of the Allier Gorges, leaving from Langogne and Langeac. Discovery walk, leaving from Monistrol d’Allier and Alleyras. Volcanic villages of the Allier Gorges, leaving from Langeac. Gastronomic train ride, leaving from Langeac.
