Le Puy Mary

Listed as a Grand Site de France, the Puy Mary draws some 600,000 visitors every year to the Cantal. From the top of this amazing volcanic pyramid you can enjoy one of Auvergne’s finest views.

Le Puy Mary, 1,783 metres high, is a symbol of the Cantal Mountains, with its pyramid shape that distinguishes it from the surrounding volcanoes.

The summit is acessible from mid-May to late October departing from the Pas de Peyrol pass, where you'll also find an information center with a museum telling the volcanic history of the area. From here, it's about a 30 minute climb to the top, and 200 metres higher in altitude.

The site suffered erosion previously, but new installations including steps make for an easier climb and a respect of the environment. The marked route that takes you to a viewpoint indicator, from which you can enjoy one of the most panoramic views in the whole of France.
